Future of Global Health Education at IGHS
The IGHS Master’s in Global Health Sciences was the first program of its kind. In October 2024, an independent program review concluded that the GHS MS program is distinguished by dedicated and high-caliber faculty and staff who are recognized as leaders in global health. The program’s effective admissions process, commitment to diversity and personalized student advising contribute to a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. These strengths, combined with proactive development efforts and a reputation for excellence, will be the basis for strengthening the program through Sankaran’s leadership.
“Dr. Sankaran’s vision and proven track record of educational innovation, mentorship and global engagement will ensure that the GHS-MS program not only maintains its strengths but also continues to innovate and lead in preparing the next generation of global health professionals. I am excited to partner with Sujatha in strengthening our program’s foundation and advancing ongoing excellence and innovation.” said Elizabeth Fair, PhD, MPH, Director of Education at IGHS.
Sankaran’s vision for the GHS-MS program is rooted in her passion for building equitable health systems and nurturing globally minded professionals. Her operational expertise and dedication to mentorship will be invaluable as she works to sustain and grow the program.
Payam Nahid, MD, MPH, Executive Director of IGHS, welcomed Sankaran’s appointment and emphasized the alignment with the institute’s strategic direction:
“Expanding our work in non-communicable diseases and quality of care are key strategic priorities for the Institute,” he said. “Dr. Sankaran’s expertise and leadership in these areas will be invaluable as we continue advancing our mission to improve health outcomes for all people, everywhere.”
