Students, faculty and researchers can test their best ideas for improving the quality of care for mothers and newborns in low-resource settings on December 13 at a Shark Tank style competition. The competition is part of a symposium exploring emerging issues and implementation challenges in improving maternal and newborn quality of care.

The symposium marks the launch of the Global Maternal and Newborn Health Research Cooperative at UCSF Global Health Sciences.

Competition participants will have three minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of judges that includes Jerker Lijestrand and Janna Patterson, Senior Program Officers, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Jaime Sepulveda, Executive Director, UCSF Global Health Sciences.

Judges will provide two minutes of feedback to each participant and will select one winner, who will receive a $500 prize. The audience also will select a people’s choice awardee.

To apply to participate in the competition, complete this form and email a one-page description and up to three PowerPoint slides outlining the specific problem, your solution and how your solution works. Entries are due by December 7, 2016 at 5 PM PT. Up to 12 entrants will be selected to participate in the competition.
