Mike Reid recognized for leadership and service in global health at Consortium of Universities for Global Health conference

Michael Reid, MD, received the 2023 Thomas Hall-Nelson Sewankambo Mid-Career Leadership Award for expanding training and education activities for San Francisco and California public health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year, the Consortium of Universities for Global Health recognizes leaders who exemplify excellence in global health education, research, advocacy and service and who work with colleagues in resource-poor settings.

Reid is an associate professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, co-director of STRIPE HIV, director of the IGHS Center for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, and a former co-chair of the IGHS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. He oversees research and capacity-building initiatives in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa related to enhancing HIV service delivery and strengthening global health security. Reid is an HIV clinician and sees patients at San Francisco General Hospital’s Ward 86. He is also co-chair of UCSF’S Decolonizing Global Health working group.
