The Bay Area Global Health Alliance held its Inaugural board meeting on June 20, setting another milestone in bringing together a network of organizations across a wide spectrum of sectors to strengthen the Bay Area’s global health impact worldwide.

The Alliance aims to strengthen the Bay Area as a hub for global health innovation by bringing together organizations across sectors, to take on major global health challenges that harness the region’s culture of innovation, research, discovery and delivery. The Alliance serves as a focal point to convene and facilitate connections, bringing member organizations together in new ways around large-scale projects and partnerships.

“Other regions across the country have benefited from establishing alliances to help their members achieve their global health goals,” said Colin Boyle, deputy director of UCSF’s Institute for Global Health Sciences, who chaired the meeting. “Given the fragmented landscape of Bay Area organizations working in global health, our alliance is likely to have an even greater impact in helping members do together many things they can’t accomplish individually.”

The board consists of senior representatives from PATH, Public Health Institute, Merck for Mothers, Facebook, Chevron, Gilead Sciences, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCSF, and Stanford as well as ex-officio board members from Global Impact Advisors, Hunuvat, L.E.K. Consulting and the University of New South Wales.

The Board reviewed recommendations from pro-bono research conducted by L.E.K. Consulting which found keen interest from the global health stakeholder community in the areas of digital health/AI; ‘global to local’ – the transferability of products and services; and market expansion strategies.

The Alliance is currently recruiting for its first Executive Director.
