The Center for Global Strategic Information and Public Health Practice (CGSIPHH) offers technical assistance to host-country educational institutions to create or strengthen graduate degree programs in epidemiology and biostatistics, monitoring and evaluation, and other areas of applied public health research and management.
- Based on a needs assessment conducted at the Hanoi School of Public Health, we conducted 10 short courses using a train-the-trainer model, which has been incorporated into the school curriculum.
- We are working with Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and the Guyana Ministry of Health to develop a new Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program at the University of Guyana.
- We collaborated with Mzumbe University in Tanzania to develop a Master of Science (MSc) degree program in monitoring and evaluation. This course is based on a competency approach to education and includes close collaborative capacity-building development opportunities for students and faculty working with health-based implementation partners throughout Tanzania. Preparation includes faculty technical and pedagogical development through partnerships with CGSIPHH and other UCSF faculty.
- Our partnership with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania began in 2005. While the primary goal is to support MUHAS in expanding its capacity to supply the health professionals the country so urgently requires, the partnership also strengthens CGSIPHH’s capacity to contribute to global health and the global workforce crisis. Together, CGSIPHH and MUHAS are building and evaluating this model of institutional partnership and demonstrating that it leads to sustained and innovative change at both institutions.
