Joe DeRisi, PhD
President Emeritus, CZ Biohub San Francisco
Joe DeRisi is a professor of biochemistry and biophysics at UC San Francisco (UCSF) and recently appointed President Emeritus of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub SF. His research integrates genomics, bioinformatics, and bioengineering to uncover the causes of infectious and noninfectious diseases. A pioneer in genomic technologies, his work has transformed how metagenomic sequencing is used to detect hard-to-diagnose pathogens. A MacArthur Fellow and member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, DeRisi co-founded Delve Bio to bring metagenomic diagnostics to hospitals nationwide. His innovations continue to advance global pathogen surveillance and genomic medicine.
