Leveraging Implementation Science and Innovation to Advance Equity in Cancer Detection and Diagnosis in Africa
Global inequities in cancer detection and diagnostic capacity continue to drive preventable breast and childhood cancer mortality across Africa. Implementation science and diagnostic innovation offer critical opportunities to strengthen health systems and advance cancer care equity. This dissertation examines multi-level barriers to timely and effective cancer diagnosis in two African contexts. It integrates a quantitative evaluation of Morocco’s National Breast Cancer Screening Program, a mixed-methods assessment of pediatric cancer diagnostic capacity and readiness for next-generation sequencing in Ghana, and qualitative exploration of pediatric cancer patients’ diagnostic pathways in Ghana.
