Calvin Chiu, PhD

Assistant Professor, UCSF Institute for Health & Aging

Calvin Chiu is an assistant professor at the UC San Francisco (UCSF) Institute for Health & Aging. His research lies at the intersection of behavioral science, development, and health economics, focusing on new approaches to increase the use of essential health services in low- and middle-income countries. Before joining UCSF, Chiu worked with Innovations for Poverty Action in Zambia and with the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office in South Africa, where he studied maternal and child health and HIV care. He earned his PhD in Health Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MA in Economics from Boston University. His research informs policy design to promote equitable and effective health systems worldwide.
