Speakers 

Geoffrey Buckle, MD, MPH 

Geoffrey Buckle is a gastrointestinal oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Associate Director for East Africa Collaborations within UCSF’s Global Cancer Program. His research focuses on the etiology, early detection, and treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in Eastern Africa. He serves as Chair of the Steering Committee for the African Esophageal Cancer Consortium (AfrECC), a multidisciplinary research consortium of more than 100 physicians and scientists working across Eastern and Southern Africa to advance collaborative research on ESCC. 

Kija Luhuti, MD, MPH 

Kija Luhuti is a medical doctor and public health specialist working as a clinical research coordinator at the MUHAS-ORCI-UCSF cancer research collaboration, based at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania. His research interests focus on cancer prevention, early detection, and implementation science. He is committed to developing scalable, culturally tailored screening approaches to reduce esophageal cancer burden in high-risk, underserved populations.
