Jeremiah Chakaya Muhwa, MBBS, MMed
Five conditions primarily contribute to the global burden of respiratory disease (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory infections, tuberculosis, and lung cancer). The burden of lung disease is staggering: hundreds of millions of people suffer and four million people die prematurely from respiratory diseases each year. The situation is not hopeless, most major respiratory illnesses are avoidable.
Jeremiah Chakaya Muhwa is the chief executive officer/technical director at the Respiratory Society of Kenya and a volunteer lecturer at the Department of Medicine, Dermatology and Therapeutics at the Kenyatta University School of Medicine.
