She has extensive experience in global health systems strengthening and quality improvement, with work spanning Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa; the Caribbean; Abu Dhabi; and the United States. She has served as a consultant and subject matter expert for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), World Health Organization, and Gates Foundation. Her current research includes studies of neurodevelopmental outcomes and developmental disability in Zimbabwe and the 12-country Global Scales for Early Development Norms & Standards study, for which she serves as Principal Investigator of the only North American site.

She received her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed pediatric residency training at Seattle Children’s Hospital and UCSF. She completed a fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital, a PhD in Psychology at the University of Washington, and a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Bioethics at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics. Goals

During this talk, Making Early Childhood Development Visible: Expanding Access to High-Quality Measurement through the Global Scales for Early Development:

  • Learn how a child’s developmental trajectory can be monitored, much like weight and height
  • Understand how the Global Scales for Early Development (GSED) were developed as global measures of child development
  • Consider how the GSED and D-score can inform population-level monitoring and programmatic efforts

Our Grand Rounds invites participants to:

  • Learn: Explore global health advances, research, and strategies.
  • Connect: Engage with experts and peers across disciplines and geographies.
  • Apply: Gain ideas, perspectives, and lessons to inform your work.
