Erin C. Wilson, DrPH, MPH
Erin C. Wilson is Deputy Director and Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Public Health Research within the San Francisco Department of Public Health, as well as a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). A social epidemiologist with over 20 years of community-engaged research experience, Wilson specializes in health disparities research, implementation science, and multi-level interventions addressing systemic stigma and social determinants of health domestically and globally. Her expertise spans infectious disease and intervention research testing multi-level, status-neutral, bio-behavioral, and mHealth interventions across domestic settings in California and the Deep South, and low- and middle-income settings like Nepal and Brazil. She has led groundbreaking studies—including the world’s first HIV incidence study of trans women globally, the first HIV incidence study of young trans women in the U.S., and one of the first PrEP demonstration projects for transgender individuals. For over a decade, she has served as Co-Investigator for the San Francisco site of the CDC’s National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) study, overseeing multiple rounds of data collection and analysis across cycles focused on men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, high-risk heterosexuals, and trans women. Wilson is focused on fostering the next generation of health equity leaders, serving as a faculty mentor in NIH training programs to guide physician and nurse scientists at UCSF, and mentoring MPH students at UC Berkeley and undergraduate trainees throughout the United States.
