Chief Science Officer for PEPFAR in the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy in the US State Department

Mike Reid is Chief Science Officer for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State, where he leads scientific strategy and investments in long-acting therapeutics, digital health, and AI-driven service delivery models. At UC San Francisco (UCSF), he serves as Associate Director of the Center for Global Health Diplomacy, Delivery, and Economics and Chief Medical Officer of the UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity & Action (UPIEA). A practicing HIV clinician at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Reid has led PEPFAR-funded programs in sub-Saharan Africa and directed the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Health Program in Botswana. He holds medical degrees from Cambridge University and Imperial College London and an MPH from UC Berkeley.
