Payam Nahid, MD, MPH

Executive Director of IGHS and Director of the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis

Payam Nahid is the Executive Director of the UC San Francisco Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) and the Haile T. Debas Distinguished Professor of Global Health. He is an expert in tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/TB co-infection, leading international programs supported by the NIH, CDC, U.S. Department of State, and the Gates Foundation to advance TB diagnostics and treatments. Nahid co-founded the Vietnam National TB Program–UCSF Research Collaboration Unit and serves as UCSF Program Director and Senior Research Advisor for the SMART4TB Consortium. He serves as the Founding Director of the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis and co-leads the NIAID-funded UCSF–UC Berkeley TB Research Advancement Center (UC TRAC). In these roles, he mentors early-stage investigators and contributes to the development of international TB guidelines.
