Financing Your Education

Costs

The student tuition and fees for the PhD program are posted by the Office of the Registrar and are subject to change each year. The fees do not include the cost of books, housing, personal expenses and research expenses.

Financial Support

IGHS is committed to supporting doctoral trainees and their research by providing funding in the form of tuition support and stipends for at least the first two years of the four-year program. The amount of this tuition support and stipend are determined as part of the admissions process, and students will receive a personalized financial support statement at the time of admission.

During the first two years of the program, students receive mentorship and training specifically designed to assist them in identifying independent funding. Students may contact UCSF faculty in their areas of interest for Graduate Student Research (GSR) positions and explore individual grant opportunities. More information about available funding opportunities is on the UCSF Graduate Division Financial Support website.

Although financial support varies for each student based on their research interest, individual circumstance, and need, the following is an inventory of support received by Global Health Sciences PhD students over the course of the program. This list is in no way a guarantee of funding, but is intended as a sampling of possible resources.
