Dear IGHS community –
I am writing to share my shock, deep hurt and concern with the atrocity that took place yesterday in Atlanta, Georgia, where a gunman took the lives of 8 people. Seven of those lives were women; six of the women were of Asian descent. The details of the incidents are still developing but I can only imagine how painful and triggering this must be for everyone, and particularly those in Asian and Pacific Islander communities. I acknowledge the fear, hurt and anger that many are experiencing at this time and I want you know on behalf of the IGHS community that we stand by you and you have our support.
I will be working diligently with our Leadership and Executive Teams to strategize on what we can do as an institute to continue to combat racism, including anti-Asian and Pacific Islander hate, as well as gender-based violence and discrimination wherever it exists. Please take all the time you need today to take care of yourselves and one another. Last night the Office of Diversity included the following resources in their newsletter:
