The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) and UCSF Global Health Sciences will hold a public forum to discuss what global health means to the Bay Area and California. The forum will feature international and local leaders in global health and will highlight the Bay Area and the state as a center of global health excellence, generating new knowledge, skills, jobs and external partnerships essential to US leadership in global health. A light lunch will be served.
Among the speakers at the forum will be Susan Desmond-Hellmann, UCSF Chancellor; Christopher Elias, President and CEO of PATH; and Joe Rospars, co-founder of Blue State Digital. Elias and Rospars serve as Commissioners on the CSIS Commission on Smart Global Health Policy. A successor to the original CSIS Smart Power Commission, the Commission on Smart Global Health Policy is developing actionable recommendations for a long-term U.S. strategic approach to global health that will build on the U.S. Government’s significant investments of recent years. The Commission’s diverse membership includes prominent, accomplished leaders from the private sector, the Congress, academia, media, and the security and foreign policy communities.
The forum will inform the deliberations of the CSIS Commission as it drafts its final report in the last quarter of 2009. It will also highlight the economic impact of global health in California and UC’s expanding role, including information about the new UC Global Health Institute.
The event will be live webcast, and questions will be accepted via email and Twitter. More details coming soon.
RSVP is requested. Register now.
