Core courses

This problem-based learning course focuses on topics of critical interest in global health, including multinational organizations, high disease burden global health problems, collaborative approaches to solving such problems, and career tracks for global health. (Short term and Major Pathway)

The global burden of disease, major health interventions, public and private international health organizations, and methods of community-based interventions are the major topic areas of this introductory course. (Major Pathway only)

This twice monthly seminar course highlights global health work done at UCSF, including student presentations of works in progress. (Major Pathway only)

Basic Sciences track

The core of the basic sciences track is extensive time in a lab environment. Students learn techniques and hone skills to apply to their individual research projects. (Short term and Major Pathway)

Clinical epidemiology track

Students in the Clinical Epidemiology track enroll in the Advanced Training in Clinical Research Program (ATCR) sponsored by the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. For full course descriptions, see the ATCR homepage.

Optional courses

Scientific writing seminars provide students the opportunity to hone advanced writing skills through production and revision of potential proposals or papers.

This course provides the essential components to writing a clinical research protocol. The students will attend a group lecture and small seminar groups for four weeks. The course will cover hypothesis generation and specific aims, experimental procedures, sample size estimation, data analysis, and writing consent forms for human subjects. (Basic sciences track only)
