2007 - Bellagio
On June 4-8, 2007, leaders in surgery, anesthesia, obstetrics, health policy and health economics from sub-Saharan Africa and the international health community convened at the Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Conference Center to examine the current status of surgical services in sub-Saharan Africa. At the meeting, participants agreed that early surgical intervention can be cost-effective and disease preventive; however, such a concept is not widely understood or accepted around the globe. Participants agreed on a set of action steps aimed at improving access to surgical services and training in the region and committed to engaging national and international stakeholders to advocate for and implement this action plan.
