Monitoring & Evaluation

The University of California, San Francisco, is a center of excellence for evaluation science. We provide guidance and services to develop, implement, and test evaluation information systems. Training and technical assistance in monitoring and evaluation (M & E) include effective use of data and strategic information for program planning and improvement.

Technical assistance in data-use activities includes:

  • Assisting sites to develop data collection strategies, and training staff to collect and clean study data
  • Ensuring high-quality datasets through local or remote database infrastructure
  • Helping sites generate reports and translate results into strategic information
  • Assisting in data analysis activities
  • Helping program staff use data from key indicators that are collected routinely for program evaluation and improvement
  • Assessing program needs for capacity in M & E and establishing flexible solutions for collecting, managing, analyzing, and returning information to country programs.

We offer M & E technical assistance workshops in data use, triangulation, antiretroviral therapy (ART) outcomes, patient monitoring systems, national evaluation agenda-setting, capacity assessment, public health evaluations, and cost-effectiveness assessments. To learn more about these processes, please refer to our Training and Workshops page. To begin planning an M & E workshop for your institution, please visit our Workshops page.
